Law enforcement officials in Florida have dismantled a large illegal gambling operation after raids across multiple locations led to the seizure of 265 unauthorized gaming machines and more than $120,000 in cash.
The crackdown, named “Operation Silent Spin,” was carried out by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC). Investigators targeted three gambling venues that had reportedly been under surveillance for some time.
According to authorities, the biggest seizure took place at Spin City Arcade, where officers confiscated 155 illegal slot-style machines along with $78,483 in cash. Another unidentified venue was found to contain 61 illegal gambling devices and $24,157 in cash.
Police also raided Mike’s Arcade, recovering 49 illegal machines and $18,157. Officials noted that Spin City Arcade had already been investigated during a previous operation in 2023, although no arrests were made at that time.
FGCC Director of Gaming Enforcement L. Carl Herold said illegal gambling businesses create broader criminal risks for surrounding communities, describing them as hubs for illicit cash activity and public safety concerns.
State regulators say illegal gambling activity has continued to grow across parts of South Florida, prompting closer cooperation between local law enforcement and gaming regulators. FGCC Chair Julie Brown stated that southwest Florida has become one of the state’s most active areas for underground gambling operations and may see additional enforcement teams deployed in the future.
The commission is also encouraging residents to report suspected illegal gambling activity directly to authorities.
