Arteta Commits Arsenal Future With New Deal Until 2030

Mikel Arteta has signed a new Arsenal contract running until 2030, giving the Premier League champions long-term stability as they target an extended period of domestic and European success.

The agreement replaces a deal that had been due to expire at the end of the current season and could keep the Spaniard in charge for more than a decade. Arteta first took over in December 2019 and has since overseen Arsenal’s return to the top of English football.

His improved contract includes a significant increase on his previous salary of around £10m per year, with bonuses capable of adding roughly another £5m annually. During negotiations, Arteta is understood to have compared his position with some of Europe’s highest-paid coaches, including Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone and former Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, both of whom have earned more than £20m per season.

Arteta, 44, has already delivered major silverware during his time in north London, including the Premier League title and FA Cup. Arsenal also reached the Champions League final in May, where they were beaten by Paris St-Germain.

Last season’s league triumph ended Arsenal’s 20-year wait for a Premier League title and strengthened the club’s belief that its current project can develop into a sustained period of dominance.

Guardiola’s departure from Manchester City at the end of last season has also made Arteta the longest-serving manager currently working in the Premier League.

Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick believes that continuity could give the club an important advantage over its rivals, particularly as several members of the traditional top six have changed managers in recent seasons.

The club’s leadership sees Arteta’s extended spell in charge as a key part of Arsenal’s current strength, allowing him to develop his squad and playing structure over several years rather than repeatedly rebuilding under different coaches.

Arsenal are now focused on building on their Premier League success rather than treating last season’s title as the completion of the project. The club wants to remain competitive for major trophies over the coming years while continuing to strengthen the squad and search for small advantages over its closest rivals.

Arteta’s decision to remain was never considered a major doubt despite his previous contract entering its final season. He had consistently made clear that he wanted to continue leading the team he has built.

His ambition is understood to centre on creating a lasting dynasty at Arsenal, with the club’s recent achievements viewed internally as the foundation for further success rather than the peak of the current cycle.

The disappointment of narrowly missing out on Arsenal’s first Champions League title has also increased the determination to compete again at the highest level in Europe.

Co-chairmen Stan and Josh Kroenke have strongly backed Arteta throughout Arsenal’s transformation, highlighting his understanding of the club’s identity and his role in rebuilding the team since returning in 2019.

With Arteta now committed until 2030, one of the central figures behind Arsenal’s revival is set to remain in place as the club attempts to turn its recent progress into a prolonged period at the top of English and European football.
