Denmark’s regulated gambling sector continued its steady expansion in 2024, with online gambling strengthening its position as the dominant force in the market and licensed operators capturing a larger share of player activity. According to the latest figures from the Danish Gambling Authority, total gambling expenditure reached DKK 11bn (€1.47bn), representing a 5.6% year-on-year increase.
The regulator’s annual review highlighted a growing migration towards digital gambling products. Online casino gaming remained the largest contributor to market revenue, while the share of land-based gambling continued to decline. The trend reflects changing consumer habits and Denmark’s long-term shift toward regulated online platforms.
A key measure of the market’s health, the channelisation rate, also improved during the year. The percentage of online gambling activity taking place with licensed operators rose from 90.8% in 2023 to 91.5% in 2024, placing Denmark among the leading regulated gambling markets globally.
The report examined performance across all major gambling verticals, including betting, online casinos, gaming machines, lotteries and land-based casinos. While online products gained market share, traditional retail gambling channels experienced a gradual decline.
Sports betting activity received a notable boost during UEFA Euro 2024, with Danish consumers showing significantly higher wagering levels whenever the national team was in action. The tournament provided one of the clearest examples of how major sporting events continue to influence betting behaviour across the country.
Alongside financial performance, the Danish Gambling Authority also reviewed responsible gambling initiatives. The report included updated data on ROFUS, Denmark’s self-exclusion register, and StopSpillet, the national gambling support helpline, both of which remain central components of the country’s player protection framework.
The latest figures underline the strength of Denmark’s regulated model, with online gambling growth, high channelisation rates and responsible gambling measures continuing to shape one of Europe’s most mature gaming markets.
