Greece Seeks Cybersecurity Partner to Strengthen Online Gambling Oversight

Greece’s gambling regulator has launched a new tender process to appoint a specialist partner that will help upgrade cybersecurity, player monitoring and compliance systems across the country’s online gambling sector.

The Hellenic Gaming Commission (EEEP) is searching for a legal and technical adviser to support a redesign of its digital supervision framework, including improvements to Electronic Player Accounts (EPAs), which are used to verify customers and monitor gambling activity.

The selected partner will help develop stronger technical standards around customer identification, fraud prevention and data protection. The project is expected to enhance Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures and give licensed operators better tools to prevent financial crime, underage gambling and other risks linked to online betting.

The tender comes as Greece continues a wider regulatory modernisation programme aimed at improving market transparency and fighting illegal gambling. Earlier this year, authorities outlined plans to expand the powers of the EEEP as part of efforts to tackle black market operators, which officials estimate cost the Greek economy between €1.6bn and €2bn annually, including around €600m in lost tax revenue.

The cybersecurity initiative also follows recent investment in the regulator’s digital infrastructure. In 2026, the EEEP introduced new data management and analytics capabilities designed to improve the collection and processing of information received from licensed gambling operators.

Greek authorities have increased their focus on technology-driven supervision as online gambling continues to grow and regulators across Europe place greater emphasis on safer gambling, anti-money laundering controls and protection against unlicensed platforms.

The appointment of the new partner is expected to form another step in Greece’s strategy to build a more secure, transparent and closely monitored regulated gambling market.
