Authorities in Mauritius have halted all betting activities of Bet 593 Ltd after an investigation into suspected money laundering escalated into criminal proceedings.
The country’s Gambling Regulatory Authority ordered the immediate suspension of the operator’s activities following internal findings that prompted a referral to the Financial Crimes Commission.
The probe resulted in the arrest of the company’s director, who now faces provisional money laundering charges under Mauritian financial crime legislation.
Betting operations frozen
Under the directive issued on 4 March 2026, Bet 593 Ltd must stop all local and international betting activity. The suspension applies to horse racing markets, international football wagering, online services and retail betting outlets across the island.
Regulators described the measure as precautionary. The aim is to prevent the potential continuation of illicit financial flows while investigators examine the case.
For Bet 593, the halt is particularly significant because horse racing and sports betting account for the bulk of the company’s revenue streams.
Rapid fall after recent launch
The development is striking given how recently the operator entered the market.
Bet 593 received its licence in mid-2025 and had already established visibility within the local racing ecosystem, including sponsorship of the Bicentenary Cup organised by the Mauritius Turf Club Jockey Club.
Less than a year later, its operations are now suspended while authorities investigate alleged financial crime activity.
