Oddschecker has confirmed a cybersecurity incident involving customer information, with users being advised to change their passwords after personal data was accessed.
The betting odds comparison platform informed affected account holders this week that an IT security breach had involved a limited section of its systems. According to information sent to customers, the compromised data included passwords, contact information and dates of birth.
FairPlay Sports Media, the parent company of Oddschecker, said the incident had been identified, contained and resolved without interrupting the platform’s normal services. The company has continued operating while communicating with users, commercial partners and relevant authorities over the breach.
Oddschecker brought in external cybersecurity specialists to investigate and secure the affected systems. The company also reported the incident to the appropriate authorities, although its not confirmed publicly whether the UK Information Commissioner’s Office was among the bodies contacted.
Customers have been urged to reset their Oddschecker passwords and to change credentials on other services where they may have reused the same password. The company said it had not found evidence that the exposed information was being actively exploited or used for phishing campaigns targeting customers.
The breach adds Oddschecker to a growing list of gambling-related businesses dealing with cybersecurity threats. The sector has become an attractive target because betting operators, casino platforms and affiliate businesses can hold significant volumes of personal and account information.
FairPlay Sports Media describes Oddschecker as one of the brands within its betting technology portfolio, alongside WhoScored, SuperScommesse and other sports media and technology businesses.
The incident follows other significant breaches involving gambling companies in recent years, including attacks affecting Paddy Power and Betfair customers and a previous BetMGM breach in which customer records were obtained.
For Oddschecker, the immediate priority remains securing its systems and limiting potential risks to users whose details may have been exposed.
