Rwanda’s gambling regulator has suspended Baron Sports Gaming Ltd, which operates under the Forzza brand, after determining the company repeatedly offered casino-style games beyond the scope of its licence.
The suspension, announced by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) on Thursday, requires Forzza to halt all operations in the country with immediate effect. The operator has also been instructed to remove all advertising and promotional materials linked to its business.
According to the RDB, Forzza was licensed only to provide sports betting services but was found to have repeatedly offered casino products without the necessary authorisation. The regulator warned that any attempt to continue operating during the suspension could lead to additional enforcement measures.
Forzza said it was surprised by the decision, telling local media outlet The New Times that it had not been given an explanation for the suspension.
The move comes as Rwanda seeks to strengthen oversight of its expanding gambling sector while positioning itself as an attractive destination for established international operators.
RDB Chief Operating Officer Serge Nyombayire recently said the country had 15 licensed gambling operators, including the national lottery. With Forzza suspended, that number falls to 14.
Earlier this month, Rwanda approved three new operators to enter the market. Betway, owned by Super Group, and ForteBet both secured licences covering online sports betting and casino gaming, while ElephantBet received approval to offer online sports betting.
Nyombayire has emphasised that attracting globally recognised operators remains central to Rwanda’s long-term strategy for the industry. He said experienced companies can help raise operating standards and contribute to the development of future gambling legislation by sharing expertise and international best practices.
He added that the regulator aims to build a collaborative relationship with licensed operators, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and regulatory experience as the country’s gambling framework continues to evolve.
