Three members of Arsenal’s title-winning squad have been shortlisted for the Professional Footballers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year award, with Declan Rice, Gabriel and David Raya all earning nominations after helping the club secure its first Premier League crown in 22 years.
The Arsenal trio are joined on the six-man shortlist by Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City pair Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki.
Fernandes arrives as a leading contender after recently being named Football Writers’ Association Men’s Footballer of the Year. The Portugal international enjoyed a standout campaign, registering a Premier League record 21 assists as Manchester United finished third in the table.
Rice was a driving force in Arsenal’s midfield throughout the title-winning season, while Gabriel played a crucial role in defence and Raya impressed between the posts.
Haaland, meanwhile, claimed another Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 27 league goals, while Cherki enjoyed an impressive debut season in England, contributing four goals and 12 assists for Manchester City.
The winners will be announced at the 53rd annual PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester on 25 August.
Cherki has also been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award. The French midfielder is joined by City team-mate Nico O’Reilly, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi, Arsenal prospect Max Dowman and Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha.
Kroupi earned recognition after scoring 13 goals in 33 Premier League appearances during his debut campaign, while O’Reilly recently picked up the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
