Tommy Fury and Eddie Hall Clash in Unusual Manchester Boxing Spectacle

Tommy Fury and Eddie Hall are set to meet in one of the most unconventional boxing events of the year when they face off at Manchester’s AO Arena on Saturday night.

The heavyweight contest, promoted by Misfits, is understood to be an exhibition fight and will not affect either man’s professional record. Scheduled over six rounds of two minutes each, the bout brings together two British personalities from very different sporting backgrounds.

Fury, 27, has built a professional boxing career that includes victories over influencer-boxers Jake Paul and KSI. While he continues to speak about ambitions of competing for world titles, he has also become one of the most recognisable figures in the growing influencer boxing scene.

His opponent, Hall, is best known for winning the World’s Strongest Man title in 2017. The 38-year-old previously competed in a highly publicised exhibition boxing match against fellow strongman Hafthor Bjornsson in 2022, a contest promoted as the heaviest boxing match ever staged. Hall lost that encounter before moving into mixed martial arts, where he later secured a knockout win over former strongman Mariusz Pudzianowski.

The fight itself emerged from a long-running dispute involving Fury’s father, John Fury. Tensions escalated after Hall spoke publicly about wanting to face Tyson Fury, prompting criticism from John Fury. Hall responded by accusing the Fury patriarch of bullying behaviour, and Tommy Fury eventually stepped in to settle the disagreement inside the ring.

A major talking point ahead of the event is the considerable size difference between the fighters. Fury has spent most of his boxing career around the cruiserweight division and weighed 94kg for his last professional bout. Hall, meanwhile, weighed more than 181kg during his strongest-man career. Although Hall is expected to enter the ring significantly lighter than his peak weight, there could still be a difference of around seven stone between the two competitors on fight night.

The event reflects the continued rise of influencer boxing, a trend that has divided opinion across combat sports. Supporters point to large audiences and growing commercial success, while critics argue such events move boxing further away from its traditional foundations.

Adding further intrigue, former UFC fighter Darren Till has claimed he has been prevented from attending the show and has suggested he could attempt to enter the arena disguised. Till and Fury were previously scheduled to fight in 2024 before the contest collapsed amid disagreements over potential MMA-style tactics.

There is also speculation that Fury, who first became famous through the reality television show Love Island, could use the occasion to reveal the name of his newborn daughter.

Despite ongoing criticism from boxing purists, the event is expected to attract a large crowd in Manchester. For supporters and sceptics alike, the contest serves as another example of how entertainment, social media fame and combat sports continue to merge in modern boxing.
