Robert Lewandowski has completed a move to Major League Soccer, joining Chicago Fire on a two-year contract following the end of his spell with Barcelona.
The Polish striker, 37, arrives as one of the biggest names to join MLS in recent years. His agreement runs until the end of the 2028 season, with Chicago adding him as a Designated Player once the remaining visa and international transfer formalities are completed.
Lewandowski leaves Barcelona after four successful seasons, during which he scored 120 goals in 193 appearances and helped the Spanish club win multiple domestic trophies. Before that, he built an extraordinary reputation with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers.
Across his club career, Lewandowski has scored 567 goals, while also captaining Poland and netting 89 times in 167 international appearances.
Chicago Fire head coach and director of football Gregg Berhalter described the signing as a major milestone for the club’s long-term ambitions. He said Lewandowski represents the winning mentality and high standards the organization wants to build around, adding that his arrival strengthens the team’s pursuit of trophies and raises expectations throughout the club.
Lewandowski said he is excited to begin the next stage of his career in Chicago, praising the club’s vision and expressing his desire to help the Fire compete for championships while contributing to the continued growth of soccer in the United States.
The Fire currently sit third in the MLS Eastern Conference and hope the addition of the veteran forward will boost their push for silverware during the remainder of the season.
