Real Madrid Rule Out Enzo Fernandez Move Despite Midfielder’s Chelsea Uncertainty

Real Madrid have denied any plans to sign Enzo Fernandez this summer, despite speculation linking the Chelsea midfielder with a move to the Spanish capital.

The Argentina international’s future has been the subject of growing discussion after Chelsea missed out on European qualification last season, with reports suggesting the player would be open to leaving Stamford Bridge. However, Real Madrid have publicly distanced themselves from a transfer and insisted they have made no approach for the 25-year-old.

Chelsea have also confirmed they have not received any official contact from the Spanish club. The Blues are not actively looking to sell Fernandez and continue to see him as an important part of their squad under new manager Xabi Alonso, although they would reportedly consider serious offers around their £120m valuation.

Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a then-British record £107m fee, shortly after helping Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar. Since arriving in London, he has won the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup, while last season he produced his best attacking campaign with 15 goals and seven assists across all competitions.

The midfielder’s situation became uncertain earlier this year following several public comments about his future. Fernandez admitted he was unsure whether he would remain at Chelsea and spoke positively about the idea of living in Madrid, which led to a two-match internal suspension under former manager Liam Rosenior.

His representatives have also raised questions about his long-term position at the club, including concerns over his salary and Chelsea’s absence from the Champions League.

Despite the speculation, potential options appear limited. Real Madrid have now rejected suggestions of a move, while Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have also cooled links with the Argentina international.

The Spanish giants have already completed business with Chelsea this summer, signing left-back Marc Cucurella in a deal worth up to £51.8m.

Chelsea believe the situation with Fernandez can still be repaired and expect Alonso to help rebuild the midfielder’s connection with supporters. The club remains confident that strong performances on the pitch could quickly change the mood around one of their most valuable players.
