Benfica Secure Jhon Duran on Loan With Option to Buy

Benfica have completed the signing of Colombian striker Jhon Duran on a season-long loan from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr.

The Portuguese champions will pay a loan fee of £5.19 million (€6.1 million) and have the option to make the transfer permanent for £25.5 million (€30 million) at the end of the 2026-27 season.

The move sees the 22-year-old join the seventh club of his professional career, having previously played in Colombia, the United States, England, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Russia.

Duran began his senior career with Envigado in 2019 before moving to MLS side Chicago Fire in 2022. Aston Villa signed the striker for £14 million in January 2023, where he established himself as an exciting attacking talent and scored several memorable goals, including the winner against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Although a proposed transfer to West Ham collapsed in the summer of 2024, Duran completed a £71 million move to Al-Nassr in January 2025. He scored eight goals in 13 appearances for the Saudi club before leaving on loan after half a season.

His temporary spell at Fenerbahce was cut short following a managerial change, leading to a move to Zenit St Petersburg in February 2026. Duran scored three goals in nine matches for the Russian side before Benfica secured his services for the upcoming campaign.

The Lisbon club will now hope the Colombian forward can provide a major boost to their attack, with the option to turn the loan into a permanent transfer next summer.
