Mohamed Salah is on the verge of starting a new chapter in his career after Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor confirmed they have opened negotiations to sign the Egyptian forward.
The 34-year-old became a free agent following the expiration of his Liverpool contract at the end of last season and is now in advanced talks over a move to the former Turkish champions.
Trabzonspor announced that Salah is expected to arrive in Turkey on Wednesday, with the club planning to reveal further details of his welcome after his arrival in Trabzon later in the day.
The move would see one of world football’s most decorated forwards join a club aiming to re-establish itself among Turkey’s elite. Known as the Black Sea Storm, Trabzonspor have won seven Turkish league titles, including a long-awaited championship in 2022 that ended a 38-year wait. They remain one of only six clubs to have lifted the Turkish Super Lig trophy.
Salah leaves Liverpool as one of the greatest players in the club’s history. After arriving from Roma in the summer of 2017, he spent nine seasons at Anfield, helping the Reds win two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, two League Cups and the Community Shield.
His individual achievements were equally impressive. Salah claimed four Premier League Golden Boot awards and was voted the Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Player of the Year three times, in 2018, 2022 and 2025.
Across 442 appearances for Liverpool, the Egypt international scored 257 goals and registered 120 assists, cementing his status as one of the club’s all-time greats.
On the international stage, Salah also played a key role in Egypt’s run to the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they were eliminated in a thrilling 3-2 defeat to eventual finalists Argentina.
If the transfer is completed, Salah will become one of the highest-profile players ever to join Trabzonspor as the club looks to challenge for domestic honours once again.
