Everton have completed the signing of experienced midfielder Christian Norgaard from Arsenal, with the Denmark international agreeing to a two-year contract as David Moyes continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
The transfer fee has not been officially disclosed, although reports suggest the deal is worth around £7 million.
Norgaard, 32, spent only one season at Arsenal after joining the Premier League champions from Brentford in a £15 million move last summer. Despite making 20 appearances across all competitions during the title-winning campaign, he featured just seven times in the Premier League and struggled for regular first-team opportunities. His absence from Arsenal’s squad for the recent pre-season friendly against Real Betis signalled that a departure was imminent.
The move gives Everton another experienced option in central midfield as Moyes looks to reinforce the spine of his team following the departures of long-serving captain Seamus Coleman and veteran midfielder Idrissa Gueye. The club is also preparing to cope without James Garner, who is expected to miss the opening weeks of the season after undergoing groin surgery.
Norgaard arrives with extensive Premier League experience after six successful years at Brentford, where he became one of the club’s most influential players. During his spell with the Bees, he made 196 appearances, regularly captained the side and established himself as one of the league’s most reliable defensive midfielders.
Everton have been active in the summer transfer market, already bringing in Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney in a £16.5 million deal and signing winger Tyrique George from Chelsea for £18 million after his loan spell at Goodison Park last season.
The Danish international said discussions with Moyes convinced him that Everton is building in the right direction and that the club’s recent progress made the move an attractive opportunity.
Everton will begin their 2026-27 Premier League campaign at home against Crystal Palace on 22 August, with Norgaard expected to play a key role in Moyes’ plans as the club aims to build on last season’s improvements.
