PSG Reach €50m Agreement to Sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement in principle with Barcelona for the transfer of Spain forward Ferran Torres in a deal worth around €50m (£42.7m).

The 26-year-old was allowed to sit out Barcelona training this week while negotiations over his departure moved towards completion. The transfer would bring an end to his four-and-a-half-year spell with the Catalan club, which began when he arrived from Manchester City in January 2022.

Torres heads into the move after one of the strongest seasons of his career. He registered 21 goals and three assists across 49 appearances in all competitions as Barcelona secured the La Liga title.

His reputation received another major boost during Spain’s successful World Cup campaign this summer. Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time against Argentina as Spain claimed the men’s World Cup for the second time.

PSG have now moved to add him to an attacking group already strengthened by the summer arrival of Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco. Torres would become the French champions’ second major forward signing of the window.

The deal also comes amid uncertainty surrounding Bradley Barcola, who has attracted interest from Liverpool. Torres’ ability to operate across several attacking positions would give PSG additional options should Barcola leave Paris before the transfer window closes.

The move would reunite Torres with Luis Enrique, who previously managed Barcelona and is now in charge of PSG. The French club enter the new season having won the Champions League in each of the past two campaigns and added another trophy on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup.

Before joining Barcelona, Torres spent two seasons at Manchester City after beginning his senior career with Valencia. He has also established himself as a regular for Spain, scoring 25 goals in 65 international appearances.

With the clubs now holding an agreement in principle, the remaining formalities are expected to determine when Torres can officially complete his switch to Paris.
