Former England striker Andy Carroll has publicly identified television dance coach Kevin Adams as the man convicted of sexually assaulting him in 2021.
Carroll, 37, first disclosed the assault in his autobiography Owning It, published last month, but chose not to name the attacker at the time.
Adams, who appeared on the BBC talent show Fame Academy from 2002 and later worked in television as a dancer and instructor, was convicted following a trial in September 2023. He received a 20-month prison sentence at Chelmsford Crown Court two months later.
Carroll has now named Adams in an interview with The Sun, saying he decided to do so after learning that the identity of the man convicted in the case was already available through public court records.
The former Newcastle United forward previously described being attacked while asleep at his home in 2021. The man involved was a friend of Carroll’s former partner and had been invited to the property to watch a boxing match.
Carroll said he woke during the assault and forced the attacker out of the house. When the man attempted to return, Carroll struck him and left him unconscious.
At the time, Carroll was playing for Newcastle United, the club where he began his professional career.
In his autobiography, Carroll explained that he had struggled with whether to include the incident because of how difficult it was to discuss. He ultimately decided to write about the assault in the hope that speaking publicly about his experience could help others who had gone through something similar.
Adams made a number of television appearances from the late 1990s onwards, including work as a dancer and dance coach.
He has not made a public statement since Carroll identified him as the man convicted over the assault.
