Alpine have confirmed Franco Colapinto will remain with the team for the 2027 Formula 1 season, extending the Argentine driver’s partnership with Pierre Gasly.
The decision follows a notable step forward for the 23-year-old during the current campaign. Colapinto produced the best result of his Formula 1 career with sixth place at the Canadian Grand Prix, building on an earlier seventh-place finish in Miami.
His improved performances have helped secure his position alongside Gasly as Alpine look to establish greater stability in their driver line-up.
Executive director Flavio Briatore has been encouraged by Colapinto’s development and believes his recent results have demonstrated that he can play a long-term role in the team. Alpine can now turn more of its attention towards improving the car rather than resolving questions over its 2027 drivers.
Colapinto has also spoken positively about his progress with the team, having become increasingly comfortable within Alpine while benefiting from a significantly more competitive package than the one available last season.
Alpine endured a difficult 2025 campaign and finished at the bottom of the constructors’ standings. The team has recovered strongly in 2026 and sits sixth after 12 races.
Its best result so far came through Gasly’s podium finish in Monaco, although the final classification remains under review. McLaren appealed the decision that removed two five-second penalties originally imposed on Gasly for pit-lane speeding.
The appeal hearing took place on Tuesday, with a ruling expected within the following weeks.
Alpine’s improvement this season follows two major strategic changes made during 2025. The team reduced development work on its previous car in order to concentrate resources on the chassis required for Formula 1’s new technical regulations.
Renault also ended its works Formula 1 engine programme after the 2025 season, leaving Alpine to switch to Mercedes customer power units for 2026.
Colapinto first entered Formula 1 with Williams during the second half of the 2024 season after replacing Logan Sargeant. Alpine subsequently signed him as a reserve driver for 2025, with commercial backing from Latin American sponsors contributing to the move.
He was promoted to a race seat after six rounds of the 2025 season when Jack Doohan was moved out of the full-time line-up.
With Colapinto and Gasly now confirmed for 2027, Alpine have continuity in place as they continue trying to rebuild their position in the Formula 1 midfield.
