Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with the right-back set to move to the Midlands on an initial loan.
The deal includes an obligation for Villa to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season. Wan-Bissaka has been cleared to undergo a medical, although the financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
West Ham had previously been seeking around £25m for the 28-year-old, who has not featured in either of the club’s opening two Championship matches while discussions over his future continued.
Wan-Bissaka’s expected departure would add to a summer of major changes at West Ham. The club have already sold Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham for £85m and Crysencio Summerville for £60m, while captain Jarrod Bowen has committed his future by signing a new contract.
Villa have also reshaped their squad significantly during the transfer window. Their biggest outgoing deal was Morgan Rogers’ £117m move to Chelsea, helping leave the club with the lowest net spend in the Premier League at approximately £110m once player sales are included.
Despite generating substantial income, Villa have strengthened several areas of Unai Emery’s squad. Midfielders Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes have arrived, while Alejandro Garnacho joined from Chelsea on a loan agreement that also contains an obligation to buy.
Highly rated young centre-back Modou Keba Cisse has also been added, with Wan-Bissaka now poised to become the latest arrival as Villa reinforce their defensive options.
