Barcelona Enter Race for Newcastle Star Anthony Gordon in Potential £70m Move

Barcelona are exploring a major summer move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, with the Spanish champions joining Bayern Munich in the battle to sign the England international.

The Catalan club are understood to have opened talks over a deal that could be worth more than £70m as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.

Gordon has become one of Newcastle’s key players since arriving from Everton in January 2023. The 25-year-old enjoyed another strong campaign at St James’ Park and remains under a long-term contract until 2030 after signing an extension last year.

Despite Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League, interest in Gordon has continued to grow across Europe. Bayern Munich have been monitoring the winger for several months, while Barcelona are now seriously considering a move after improving their financial flexibility through planned player sales.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is believed to admire Gordon’s pace, pressing ability and versatility across the front line. The winger can operate on either flank and has also featured centrally when needed.

Newcastle are not actively looking to sell, but any offer above £70m would force the club to consider their position, especially with Financial Fair Play regulations continuing to influence spending across the Premier League.

Gordon was left out of Newcastle’s final few matches of the season, reportedly with an eye on protecting his fitness amid growing transfer speculation.

The England forward has developed into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking players over the last two seasons, attracting attention from several elite European clubs.

Barcelona are expected to continue discussions in the coming weeks as they assess whether a deal can realistically be completed this summer.
