Brazil’s Ministry of Finance has ordered Pixbet to immediately suspend its federally authorised betting operations after the operator was found to have shortcomings in regulatory reporting and responsible gambling controls.
The precautionary measure applies to Pixbet Soluções Tecnológicas and the domains pix.bet.br, ganhei.bet.br and betdasorte.bet.br. Bets already in progress must be cancelled and the amounts staked returned to customers. The affected websites may remain accessible for users to withdraw existing account balances.
Pixbet also faces a daily fine of BRL200,000 if it fails to comply with the order. The suspension covers its federal authorisation, meaning the company may still operate under separate state licences in Rio de Janeiro and Paraná.
SPA flags responsible gambling and reporting failures
The Ministry of Finance’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) said the action followed concerns over Pixbet’s compliance with requirements governing the monitoring and supervision of licensed betting operators.
Authorities identified deficiencies in the company’s systems for identifying and monitoring players showing signs of compulsive gambling. Pixbet was also accused of failing to provide documentation and information requested by the regulator. The SPA said the deficiencies created a sufficiently high risk to bettors and Brazil’s regulated betting market to justify immediate intervention.
The operator will not be permitted to resume federally authorised activity until the required information has been supplied and the SPA is satisfied that effective monitoring, assessment and responsible gambling controls have been implemented.
Pixbet has ten business days to challenge the measure, according to Brazilian reporting.
The company has faced regulatory action before. Brazilian government records show Pixbet Soluções Tecnológicas among the companies authorised through the country’s federal fixed-odds betting framework, while the operator was also involved in previous disputes over technical and regulatory requirements during the rollout of Brazil’s regulated market.
Suspension coincides with Operation Arena investigation
The regulatory action was announced on the same day that Pixbet became a target of Operation Arena, a separate investigation involving Brazil’s Federal Police, Federal Revenue Service and other authorities.
The SPA said its administrative proceedings had already begun before Operation Arena and that the suspension itself was based on regulatory compliance issues rather than the criminal investigation.
Operation Arena is examining allegations that a betting-related business group used companies in Brazil and abroad, payment structures, foreign exchange transactions and digital assets to conceal the origin and destination of gambling proceeds.
Investigators suspect money was transferred through offshore structures and cryptocurrency transactions before being returned to businesses linked to the group. Brazilian authorities are examining potential money laundering, currency evasion and other offences involving the national financial system.
Federal investigators executed search-and-seizure warrants across several Brazilian states. Pixbet owner Ernildo Júnior was among those targeted, with authorities seizing his mobile phone and vehicle during the operation. Judicial measures also authorised the freezing or seizure of assets worth up to approximately BRL1.1 billion.
Pixbet’s legal representatives said after the operation that they had not initially received access to the court decision authorising the searches and would respond after reviewing the case. No criminal conviction has been established by the investigation, which remains ongoing.
