Brighton have completed the signing of Canada international Promise David from Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a season-long loan that includes an obligation to buy, with the total deal reportedly worth around £22m.
The 25-year-old striker moves to the Premier League after establishing himself as a prolific scorer in Belgium. Since joining Union SG in 2024, David has made 82 appearances across all competitions, registering 41 goals and nine assists.
His route to English football has been unusually varied. David began his career in Canada before spending time in Croatia and the United States. He later played for two clubs in Malta’s top division, followed by a spell with Estonian side Nomme Kalju, where his performances helped earn him a move to Belgium.
David has also strengthened his reputation at international level with Canada. He appeared as a substitute in four of the country’s five matches at the 2026 World Cup and scored during Canada’s 2-1 group-stage loss to Switzerland.
Brighton have tracked the forward for an extended period and see his physical strength, penalty-box presence and scoring record as qualities that can add another dimension to their attack.
The club also believes David’s experience in European competition and international football should help him adapt to the demands of the Premier League. At 25, Brighton view him as a player entering the strongest stage of his career while still having room to develop further.
