Burnley have signed veteran striker Jamie Vardy on a deal running until the end of the season as the club looks to recover from a difficult start to its Championship campaign.
The 39-year-old returns to English football after leaving Italian side Cremonese during the summer. Vardy had moved to Italy in 2025 following the end of his long spell with Leicester City.
He joins a Burnley side still searching for its first league victory of the season. The Clarets, relegated from the Premier League last term, sit bottom of the Championship after failing to win any of their opening five matches under new manager Nicky Hayen.
Their latest setback came on Saturday, when Bristol City scored twice in the final 10 minutes to secure a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor.
Burnley will hope Vardy’s experience and scoring record can provide an immediate lift. The former England international remains Leicester’s leading Premier League scorer with 145 goals and finished his 13-year career at the club with 200 goals from 500 appearances in all competitions.
Vardy joined Leicester from non-league Fleetwood Town in 2012 and became one of the central figures in the club’s rise, including their historic Premier League title-winning campaign. At international level, he made 26 appearances for England and scored seven goals.
Hayen sees the striker’s leadership and proven goalscoring ability as important additions to a squad under early pressure to reverse its form.
Vardy now has the opportunity to begin another chapter in English football, with Burnley hoping his arrival can help turn their season around and push the club away from the bottom of the table.
