Chiesa Reaffirms Liverpool Commitment After Scoring in Iraola’s First Match

Federico Chiesa has played down speculation about his future by insisting his full focus remains on Liverpool.

The Italy international has struggled to secure a regular role since arriving from Juventus for £12.5m in 2024. Across two seasons at Anfield under former manager Arne Slot, Chiesa started only one Premier League match and scored five goals in 50 appearances in all competitions.

The 28-year-old, whose contract runs until 2028, had previously suggested he could consider leaving if he was unable to establish himself consistently in the Premier League.

However, Chiesa struck a more positive tone after scoring in Liverpool’s 4-2 friendly victory over Sunderland on Saturday, the club’s first match under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

He said he remains happy at Liverpool and is determined to earn more opportunities, adding that his attention is currently fixed entirely on the club.

Iraola was appointed in June following Slot’s dismissal, giving Chiesa another chance to establish himself under a new manager.

The forward described the beginning of the season as another opportunity to reset, although he acknowledged that he has already experienced several fresh starts during his time at Anfield.

Chiesa also said he believed he was ready for a larger role last season but accepted that selection decisions were ultimately made by Slot based on his tactical plans.

With Iraola now in charge, Chiesa views the coming campaign as a new chapter and says his priority is to impress the new manager and compete for a more prominent place in the team.
