BOYLE Sports has launched a football-focused advertising campaign featuring former France international David Ginola to introduce its new Squad Builder betting product and strengthen its brand presence across the UK and Ireland.
The campaign, launched on 23 September, takes inspiration from the Oscar-winning film The Big Short, using a cinematic format to explain the bookmaker’s latest football betting feature.
Produced by creative agency Boldspace and directed by Elliot Simpson, the commercial begins with two football supporters discussing Squad Builder before Ginola interrupts their conversation. The former Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur winger then addresses viewers directly, explaining the product through a celebrity cameo inspired by the film.
The campaign includes 60-second and 30-second commercials distributed across television, video-on-demand services, digital platforms, social media and BOYLE Sports’ customer-facing channels.
Squad Builder was introduced ahead of the 2026/27 football season. The product allows customers to create a betting selection using between two and five players from major football leagues.
Customers can choose from seven statistical categories, including goals, assists, shots, tackles and cards. The performances of their selected players are combined to determine the overall squad total.
BOYLE Sports Brand Director Gill Blake-Swift said the company wanted the campaign to function as entertainment rather than a conventional betting advertisement. She explained that Ginola’s personality and the film-inspired format provided an opportunity to introduce Squad Builder while developing a more distinctive brand identity.
The campaign also supports the bookmaker’s existing Back Yourself brand platform, which focuses on building recognition beyond traditional gambling advertising.
Football Partnerships Support Brand Expansion
Ginola’s involvement follows a series of football sponsorship agreements and retail developments undertaken by BOYLE Sports during 2026.
The Ireland-headquartered operator opened its 400th betting shop at Galway Racecourse during the summer, expanding its retail presence shortly before extending its front-of-shirt sponsorship agreement with West Ham United, which competes in the EFL Championship.
BOYLE Sports also secured headline sponsorship of the August friendly between Manchester United and Leeds United at Dublin’s Croke Park. The fixture was branded the BOYLE Sports Cup 2026.
The bookmaker maintains a separate relationship with Leeds United as the club’s official betting partner in the UK and Ireland.
Together, these agreements have increased the company’s visibility across English football while supporting its expansion through retail betting, sports sponsorship and digital products.
Advertising Scrutiny Remains a Consideration
The new campaign arrives after BOYLE Sports received an adverse ruling from the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) over a separate free-bet promotion.
On 29 July 2026, the regulator upheld a complaint against BoyleSports (Gibraltar) Ltd concerning a paid online display advertisement.
The ASA determined that the promotion encouraged frequent and repetitive gambling in a manner that was socially irresponsible and could lead to financial harm.
The ruling concerned the earlier free-bet advertisement, not the newly launched campaign featuring Ginola.
BOYLE Sports’ latest marketing investment also comes as UK-facing bookmakers face increased taxation and associated pressure on operating costs.
Against that backdrop, the operator is continuing to develop its football-focused marketing strategy through sponsorship agreements, celebrity-led advertising and new sportsbook products.
