Christian Eriksen has returned home and is recovering with his family after collapsing during Denmark’s friendly match against Ukraine, according to updates from the Danish Football Association.
The 34-year-old midfielder was taken to hospital after the incident in Odense on Sunday, which led to the match being abandoned with Denmark leading 2-1. Medical staff rushed onto the pitch after Eriksen went down in the second half, while players from both teams formed a protective circle around him.
Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen said Eriksen was in positive spirits following further medical assessments. He added that the midfielder had spoken with family members and was expected to leave hospital shortly before returning home.
The incident revived memories of Eriksen’s cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland in 2021. Following that emergency, the former Manchester United and Tottenham midfielder was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), allowing him to continue his professional career.
