Flutter Entertainment has appointed Edward Traynor as interim group chief legal officer following the departure of Don Liu, continuing a period of senior leadership change at the global betting and gaming group.
Liu informed Flutter’s board on September 28 that he intended to resign as chief legal officer, with his departure taking effect on September 30. Traynor formally assumed the interim position on October 1, according to a regulatory filing submitted by Flutter to the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Traynor will combine his new responsibilities with his existing position as Flutter’s group company secretary. He has held the company secretary role since 2015 and previously served as general counsel and company secretary at Paddy Power before its merger with Betfair. His earlier career also included senior legal roles in the telecommunications sector, including periods with Vodafone and Fónua.
Flutter’s current leadership information now lists Traynor as both group company secretary and interim group chief legal officer. The company has not disclosed how long he is expected to remain in the interim position or announced plans for appointing a permanent successor.
Liu had been serving as Flutter’s interim chief legal officer since April 2025 after coming out of retirement for what was initially expected to be a three-month assignment. He ultimately remained with the company for around 18 months before stepping down at the end of September 2026.
The legal leadership change coincided with another major transition at Flutter. Dan Taylor became group chief executive on October 1, replacing Peter Jackson, who stepped down as CEO and from the board on September 30 after nine years leading the business. Jackson is due to remain with Flutter as an adviser until the end of 2026 to support the handover.
