Former Camelot CEO Nigel Railton to Lead Racecourse Media Group

Racecourse Media Group (RMG) has appointed former Camelot UK chief executive Nigel Railton as its new chair, effective 1 October 2026. He will succeed Conor Grant, who has led the horse racing media rights company since April 2023.

Grant will remain with RMG for a further month to support the leadership transition before formally departing on 1 November.

Railton brings extensive experience across the lottery, media and regulated consumer industries. He currently serves as chair of Post Office Ltd, a position he has held since May 2024, overseeing its transformation programme and efforts to rebuild relationships with stakeholders. He is also a trustee of the Social Mobility Foundation.

Before joining the Post Office, Railton was chief executive of Camelot UK, the former operator of the British National Lottery. During his tenure, the business recorded sustained sales growth, increased returns to charitable causes and expanded its digital operations.

He previously headed Camelot Global, where he helped secure lottery contracts in Ireland, continental Europe and the United States. Earlier in his career, Railton held senior finance, operational and strategic positions at Railtrack, Black & Decker and Daewoo Cars.

RMG non-executive director James Sanderson welcomed the appointment, highlighting Railton’s commercial leadership, governance experience and record of developing businesses in regulated markets. Sanderson said his expertise would support RMG’s work on racing media rights, audience engagement and delivering value to its shareholder racecourses.

Railton identified the changing media landscape as a central challenge for the organisation. He intends to work with chief executive Nick Mills and the wider RMG team to strengthen commercial partnerships, expand racing’s audience and support the sport’s long-term financial sustainability.

Mills also acknowledged Grant’s contribution to RMG during his three years as chair, thanking him for his leadership and support of the company’s racecourse partners.

RMG is owned by its participating racecourses and manages the commercial distribution of racing media and data rights across broadcast, digital and betting platforms. Its portfolio includes Racing TV and GBI Racing, with operating profits returned to its racecourse shareholders.
