Erling Haaland gave Manchester City a fresh injury concern after leaving the pitch early during Norway’s 2-1 Nations League defeat by Portugal.
The striker signalled to the Norway bench before being substituted in the 67th minute, with Jorgen Strand Larsen taking his place. Haaland has scored seven goals this season, and City will now wait for an update on his fitness before Sunday’s Premier League trip to Liverpool.
That fixture will be Manchester City’s first since the club was found guilty of charges linked to breaches of Premier League financial regulations. City have appealed the decision.
Norway’s defeat was their third in succession in Nations League Group A4, while Portugal secured qualification for the quarter-finals with a late winner.
Norway opened the scoring in the 36th minute after Martin Odegaard delivered into the area and Kristoffer Ajer controlled the ball before firing a half-volley into the top corner from outside the box.
Portugal responded almost immediately. Two minutes later, Joao Cancelo met a long throw from Nuno Mendes and struck a powerful bouncing effort from distance to make it 1-1.
Haaland had an opportunity to restore Norway’s lead but dragged his attempt wide before later leaving the field.
Portugal completed the turnaround in the 79th minute. Joao Felix set up Goncalo Ramos, who converted from close range to secure a fourth consecutive Nations League victory for the defending champions.
Portugal finished the match with 10 players after Francisco Conceicao received two bookings in quick succession for dissent and was dismissed in the 87th minute.
The match was Portugal’s third consecutive fixture without Cristiano Ronaldo. The 41-year-old left the national-team camp last week after being dropped, with head coach Jorge Jesus expected to discuss his future involvement with him.
With two group matches remaining, Portugal sit six points clear of second-placed Denmark, who defeated Wales 1-0, while Norway remain bottom of Group A4.
