Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has dismissed speculation surrounding the futures of Alexis Mac Allister and Alisson, insisting he wants both players to remain at Anfield while the club focuses on strengthening its squad ahead of the new season.
Speaking during Liverpool’s pre-season tour in Chicago, Iraola described Mac Allister as one of the club’s standout performers in recent years and said it was no surprise that other teams were monitoring the Argentina international. The midfielder, who joined Liverpool in 2023 on a five-year contract, has two years remaining on his current deal and has yet to begin negotiations over an extension.
Despite ongoing transfer speculation, Iraola made it clear that keeping key players is a priority.
The Liverpool boss also emphasized the importance of goalkeeper Alisson, whose current contract expires next summer. The Brazilian has recently been linked with Juventus, but Iraola believes the 33-year-old’s leadership will be invaluable as the squad adapts to new arrivals and younger players continue their development.
He highlighted experienced figures such as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Alisson as crucial dressing-room leaders following changes within the squad.
While confident in his current goalkeeping options, Iraola admitted Liverpool is actively looking to improve its defensive depth before the transfer window closes.
The need has become more pressing after right-back Conor Bradley suffered a knee injury in January. Iraola said the Northern Ireland international remains several months away from returning, leaving Liverpool short of options on the right side of defence.
The Spaniard added that, although the club sees Bradley as its long-term first-choice right-back, his absence means Liverpool must consider reinforcements. Combined with the current centre-back situation, Iraola acknowledged the defensive unit is thin and confirmed the club is working to address the issue before the new campaign begins.
