Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna after activating the player’s €40 million (£34.6 million) release clause, beating Newcastle United in the race for his signature.
The 22-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in the United States before finalising his move to Anfield. The transfer will become the first signing of Liverpool’s new era under head coach Andoni Iraola.
Newcastle had been strongly linked with Munoz and were believed to be leading negotiations earlier in the window. However, Liverpool moved decisively by triggering the release clause in his Osasuna contract, allowing them to secure the deal ahead of their Premier League rivals.
