Liverpool Ready to Test PSG With Huge Move for Bradley Barcola

Liverpool are preparing another blockbuster move in the transfer market, with Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola emerging as one of the club’s leading targets in a deal that could exceed £100 million.

The Premier League side are reportedly willing to offer around £100 million for the 23-year-old France international, although PSG are understood to value the winger much higher, with their asking price believed to be close to £145 million.

The pursuit comes after Liverpool’s recent record-breaking spending. The club agreed a deal that could rise to £116 million for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and later broke their transfer record by signing striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for £125 million.

Barcola has established himself as one of Europe’s standout young attackers since joining PSG from Lyon in 2023 in a deal worth around £38.5 million. During his time in Paris, he has collected multiple major honours, including three Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and two UEFA Champions League trophies.

Although he featured mainly as a substitute in both Champions League finals, Barcola played an important role throughout PSG’s successful European campaigns and has continued to develop under head coach Luis Enrique.

Liverpool view strengthening their forward line as a priority following Mohamed Salah’s departure at the end of last season after nine years and 257 goals for the club. France striker Hugo Ekitike remains sidelined after suffering an Achilles injury in April, while Cody Gakpo has attracted interest from Tottenham despite Liverpool’s intention to keep him.

Capable of operating on either wing or through the middle, Barcola is naturally a left-sided attacker but offers tactical flexibility across the front line. Increased competition at PSG, where Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue also occupy wide positions, has limited his opportunities to complete full matches, making a move to Anfield potentially attractive.

Barcola also impressed on the international stage this summer, scoring three goals during the World Cup as France reached the latter stages of the tournament. He has now earned 28 senior international appearances, although his minutes were frequently shared with club teammate Desire Doue due to Didier Deschamps’ rotation policy.

Statistical analysis further strengthens Liverpool’s interest. According to Opta’s player similarity model, Barcola was the closest stylistic match to former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz among players in Europe’s top five leagues during the 2025-26 season.

While both players operate primarily from the left, Barcola offers a more direct attacking profile. Having spent much of his youth career as a centre-forward, he consistently attacks central areas and looks to finish moves himself rather than simply create chances from wide positions.

He averaged 3.5 shots per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 last season and recorded 9.83 expected goals, placing him among Europe’s most dangerous wingers. His 11 league goals exceeded that expected tally, while no PSG player or Ligue 1 winger generated a higher expected goals figure throughout the campaign.

Barcola also led all players across Europe’s five major leagues with more than two shot-ending carries per 90 minutes, demonstrating his ability to beat defenders before creating scoring opportunities. He ranked among the competition’s leaders for touches inside the opposition penalty area, reinforcing his reputation as a winger who regularly arrives in dangerous positions.

Compared with Salah, Barcola attempts more dribbles but contributes fewer crosses and through balls, highlighting his preference for driving directly at defenders rather than acting as a primary creator.

His all-round game has also become more refined under Luis Enrique. Improvements in his passing decisions and positional awareness have been matched by an impressive defensive work rate, with Barcola ranking among Europe’s best wide players for winning possession high up the pitch through aggressive pressing.

Liverpool believe those qualities would complement an attack featuring Wirtz’s creativity alongside the central presence of Isak and the recovering Ekitike. Rather than demanding possession, Barcola’s willingness to make runs behind defensive lines and attack open space is viewed as an ideal fit for the team’s evolving style.

Still only 23, the former Lyon academy graduate is widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young forwards, with his pace, movement, finishing ability, pressing intensity and continued development suggesting there is still significant room for further improvement.
