Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of France international Lucas Digne from Aston Villa, bringing the experienced defender back to the club where he spent an earlier stage of his career.
The 33-year-old left-back has agreed a three-year contract with the European champions after PSG activated the £8.5 million release clause in his Villa deal.
Digne originally joined PSG in 2013 and made 30 appearances for the Paris club before eventually moving to Barcelona in 2016. His return comes after eight years in English football, where he represented Everton before joining Aston Villa in January 2022.
PSG have added Digne to strengthen their options on the left side of defence, with Portugal international Nuno Mendes currently established as the club’s first-choice left-back. Digne’s experience in France, Spain and the Premier League gives PSG another proven option as they prepare to defend their domestic and European titles.
He returns to a significantly different PSG side from the one he previously represented. The French champions have won the Champions League in consecutive seasons, retaining the trophy in 2026 after overcoming Arsenal on penalties in the final.
Digne also arrives in Paris following a successful final campaign with Aston Villa. He was part of the team that won last season’s Europa League, securing Villa’s first major trophy since 1996.
His departure continues a period of major squad change at Villa Park ahead of the new season. Digne is the third established senior player to leave the club, following Morgan Rogers’ move to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans’ transfer to Manchester United.
For PSG, the deal represents a reunion with a familiar player who now returns with considerably more experience and a lengthy record at the highest level of European football.
