Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson in a deal worth £35 million (€40.5 million).
The 26-year-old is expected to become United’s first major signing of the summer transfer window, with the club moving quickly to secure a player they have monitored for several years. Reports from Italy indicate the transfer fee has been agreed between the two clubs, while personal terms are not expected to be an issue.
Ederson has established himself as one of Serie A’s standout midfielders since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022. During his time in Bergamo, he helped the Italian side win the UEFA Europa League in 2024 and became a key figure in Gian Piero Gasperini’s high-intensity system.
The Brazilian made 49 appearances in all competitions last season, contributing five goals and two assists as Atalanta secured a third-place finish in Serie A and qualified for the Champions League once again.
United’s recruitment team view Ederson as a versatile midfield option capable of operating in both defensive and box-to-box roles. His athleticism, ball-winning ability and experience in European competition have made him a priority target as the club looks to strengthen the centre of the pitch ahead of the new campaign.
The move continues United’s efforts to reshape their squad following a disappointing season, with further additions expected before the transfer window closes.
If completed as anticipated, Ederson will arrive at Old Trafford after making more than 130 appearances for Atalanta and earning recognition as one of the most consistent midfielders in Italian football.
