Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva on a two-year contract, with the experienced playmaker becoming one of the first major additions under new manager Jose Mourinho.
The 31-year-old arrives as a free agent after ending a highly successful nine-year spell at Manchester City, where he helped the club win numerous domestic and European honours. Silva had been linked with several clubs across Europe in recent months, including FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, before choosing a move to the Spanish capital.
Silva becomes Real Madrid’s second signing of the summer transfer window following the arrival of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal valued at £52 million.
The club is looking to strengthen after a disappointing campaign in which it failed to secure any silverware. Real finished eight points behind La Liga champions FC Barcelona and exited the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage.
Silva is currently representing Portugal national football team at the 2026 World Cup and is expected to remain a key figure for his country throughout the tournament.
Real Madrid’s transfer activity is not expected to stop there. The club is reportedly pursuing Denzel Dumfries following his departure from Inter Milan, while Ibrahima Konate is also set to arrive after leaving Liverpool.
Meanwhile, defender Antonio Rudiger has committed his future to the club by signing a contract extension that will keep him at Real Madrid until 2027.
