Real Madrid have agreed a deal worth up to £51.8 million to sign Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, according to reports.
The 27-year-old is set to return to Spain after four seasons in London, with Real Madrid moving to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new campaign. Cucurella still had two years remaining on his Chelsea contract, but discussions between the clubs have resulted in an agreement that could rise to £51.8m through various add-ons.
Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and went on to become a regular figure in the squad. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he helped the club win major honours, including the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, while also establishing himself as one of Spain’s leading full-backs.
The defender enjoyed a particularly strong 2025-26 season, contributing both defensively and in attack as Chelsea secured a top-four Premier League finish and returned to the UEFA Champions League. His performances also earned him a key role with the Spanish national team during the World Cup.
For Real Madrid, the signing represents another major addition as the club continues to refresh its squad with players entering their prime years. The Spanish giants view Cucurella as a long-term solution at left-back and believe his experience in both La Liga and the Premier League will help him adapt quickly upon his return to his home country.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are expected to reinvest part of the transfer fee as they continue reshaping their squad ahead of the 2026-27 season. The move will bring an end to Cucurella’s four-year spell in west London, where he made a significant impact despite facing intense competition for places throughout his stay.
