Real Madrid are on the verge of securing one of Europe’s brightest young talents after agreeing personal terms with RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, while Paris Saint-Germain have officially ended their pursuit of the highly rated teenager.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international is now expected to complete a transfer worth more than £100 million, with Madrid preparing to finalize an agreement with Leipzig after reaching a contract arrangement with the player.
According to sources close to the Spanish club, Madrid’s recruitment team, led by Jose Angel and chief scout Juni Calafat, have monitored Diomande’s progress for around five years. Their long-term interest reportedly predates his impressive performances on the international stage, with the club viewing him as a strategic target rather than reacting to his recent World Cup displays.
Liverpool had also been among the clubs chasing Diomande earlier this summer. The Premier League champions saw an opening bid of £69 million turned down in June before shifting their focus to alternative transfer targets.
Paris Saint-Germain emerged as the leading contenders after Liverpool cooled their interest and reportedly submitted a final offer worth £102.5 million on Sunday. However, Leipzig rejected the proposal, and PSG subsequently withdrew from negotiations once Real Madrid accelerated their move.
In a statement explaining their decision, the French champions said the transfer fee and salary expectations had exceeded acceptable limits and conflicted with the club’s financial strategy. PSG added that they would not compromise squad balance or participate in what they described as inflated market conditions driven by player representatives.
Madrid’s agreement with Diomande is understood to follow a performance-based structure similar to Jude Bellingham’s contract, allowing earnings to increase over time through sporting achievements.
Leipzig had hoped to retain the winger following an outstanding campaign but accepted that interest from Europe’s biggest clubs made keeping him increasingly difficult. The Bundesliga side now stand to receive one of the largest transfer fees in their history.
Diomande enjoyed a breakthrough 2025-26 season, winning the Bundesliga Young Player of the Season award after scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists. He joined Leipzig from Spanish club Leganes last summer on a five-year contract after moving from Ivory Coast to a football academy in the United States before beginning his professional career in Spain.
