England have been handed a timely boost ahead of their World Cup meeting with Ghana after winger Bukayo Saka returned to full training following concerns over his fitness.
The 24-year-old missed part of England’s preparations over the weekend as he continued to manage an Achilles problem that has troubled him since March. However, Saka trained normally on Monday, easing fears that he could miss Tuesday’s Group L encounter.
England boss Thomas Tuchel has repeatedly stressed the need to carefully manage Saka’s workload during the tournament. The Arsenal star was used as a substitute in England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening match and made an immediate impact, helping to create a goal for Marcus Rashford.
Saka’s fitness has been a major talking point since arriving at the tournament, with the winger acknowledging before the competition that he was prepared to play through discomfort in order to represent England on football’s biggest stage. Tuchel has previously suggested the attacker is unlikely to be able to start and complete every match during the World Cup.
England sit top of Group L after their opening win and could secure qualification for the knockout stage with a positive result against Ghana.
