Spurs Eye Deal for Manchester City Winger Savinho

Manchester City winger Savinho is open to leaving the Premier League champions this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur emerging as a leading contender for his signature.

The 22-year-old Brazil international has been identified as a priority target by Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi, and City are aware of the north London club’s interest. Discussions surrounding a potential move are understood to be gathering momentum, with Savinho keen to secure a transfer before the end of the window.

Savinho joined City from sister club Troyes in July 2024 for £30.8 million after an impressive loan spell at Girona. Tottenham had previously explored a deal for the winger before his arrival at the Etihad, but City had no intention of selling at the time.

He later committed his future by signing a contract extension through 2031. During his debut campaign under Pep Guardiola, Savinho featured regularly, scoring three goals in 48 appearances across all competitions. However, his opportunities declined last season as increased competition for wide attacking positions limited his involvement to 36 matches. New arrivals Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo both challenged for places on the right flank.

Despite his desire to leave, Savinho has been named in Manchester City’s 28-man squad for the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.

The travelling group includes senior figures such as Phil Foden and Gianluigi Donnarumma, who either missed the World Cup or exited the tournament at an early stage.

Jack Grealish is not part of the squad as he continues his recovery from a stress fracture in his foot, an injury that cut short his loan spell at Everton in January. The 30-year-old recently posted on social media that he hopes to return to full training soon and shared footage of his rehabilitation work in Majorca.

New City manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked alongside Grealish as Pep Guardiola’s assistant during the club’s treble-winning 2022-23 campaign, recently praised the England international.

Maresca said he has maintained a good relationship with Grealish since leaving City and described him as a player with “a big heart,” while adding that his future will become clearer in the coming weeks.

Goalkeeper James Trafford has also been left out of the touring party as he closes in on a permanent transfer to Leeds United.

Several players who progressed deep into the World Cup have not travelled either, including Rodri, who is currently recovering after undergoing back surgery earlier this week.

Manchester City’s Asian tour begins against Inter Milan in Hong Kong on 1 August before fixtures against the K League All Stars in Seoul on 5 August and Atletico Madrid on 9 August.
