Richarlison has been omitted from Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League squad for the first half of the season, leaving the Brazilian forward increasingly likely to leave the club.
The 29-year-old had been expected to secure a move before Tuesday’s transfer deadline after telling manager Roberto De Zerbi that he wanted to depart. A potential return to Everton came close to materialising, but negotiations failed to produce an agreement.
Tottenham had already informed Richarlison before the deadline that he was not part of their plans for the new campaign. With transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia still open, the forward could now complete a move away from north London in the coming days.
Richarlison joined Spurs from Everton in the summer of 2022 after spending four seasons at Goodison Park following his move from Watford in 2018. He has now entered the final year of his Tottenham contract.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Richarlison started Tottenham’s opening Premier League defeat against Brentford. However, he was left out of the matchday squad for Saturday’s 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United.
His position in the team has also been weakened by the arrival of Omar Marmoush. Tottenham recently brought the Manchester City striker in on loan, and Marmoush featured against Newcastle after taking Richarlison’s place among De Zerbi’s attacking options.
The situation marks a significant change from last season, when Richarlison was one of Tottenham’s most important players during their battle to remain in the Premier League. He finished as the club’s leading league scorer with 11 goals from 32 appearances, while also contributing four assists.
Spurs eventually secured survival on the final day, but Richarlison’s role has diminished rapidly since then. With no place in the registered Premier League squad and overseas transfer markets still available, his four-year spell at Tottenham now appears close to ending.
