Tottenham Move Closer to Signing Bournemouth Defender Marcos Senesi

Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi as the north London club continues its summer rebuild under Roberto de Zerbi.

The 29-year-old Argentine centre-back is expected to join Spurs on a free transfer, with negotiations over personal terms now in the final stages. Tottenham are also progressing in talks to bring in Scotland international Andy Robertson following his departure from Liverpool.

Bournemouth had spent months trying to keep Senesi at the club and reportedly made three separate contract offers, but the defender rejected the latest proposal in December while exploring interest from clubs abroad. Despite attracting attention from overseas, Senesi now appears likely to remain in the Premier League.

The experienced defender played a major role in Bournemouth’s historic campaign last season, helping the Cherries finish sixth and secure European football for the first time. He missed just one league match and contributed five assists across 37 appearances.

Senesi joined Bournemouth from Dutch side Feyenoord in 2022 and went on to make 128 appearances during his four-year spell on the south coast. His consistent performances and physical style have made him a key target for Tottenham as they look to strengthen a squad that struggled badly last season.

Spurs endured a disappointing Premier League campaign, finishing 17th before improving late in the season following the appointment of Roberto de Zerbi in March. The club narrowly avoided relegation and is now preparing for what executives see as a crucial transfer window.

Tottenham chief executive Vinai Venkatesham recently admitted the current squad lacks the right balance and stressed the importance of adding experience, leadership and physical strength ahead of the new season.

Senesi’s arrival would fit that profile as Spurs attempt to rebuild after one of the club’s most difficult campaigns in recent years.
