Tottenham have completed the signing of Argentine defender Marcos Senesi following his departure from Bournemouth, with the experienced centre-back set to officially join the club on 1 July pending international clearance.
The 29-year-old arrives on a free transfer after choosing not to renew his contract at Bournemouth. Senesi turned down three separate contract offers during the season as he looked for a new challenge ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
A three-time Argentina international, Senesi spent four years on the south coast after joining Bournemouth from Feyenoord. Although he missed out on a place in Argentina’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, he now has the opportunity to begin a new chapter with the Europa League holders.
Speaking after the move was announced, Senesi said he was delighted to join Spurs and was impressed by the club’s ambition from the very beginning of discussions.
He explained that Tottenham had made it clear how highly they valued him and expressed his determination to help the team compete for trophies. Senesi also pledged to give everything on the pitch and help return the club to the level supporters expect.
The former San Lorenzo defender becomes Tottenham’s second signing of the summer transfer window after the arrival of Andy Robertson, who also joined on a free transfer following the end of his time at Liverpool.
Meanwhile, long-serving Wales international Ben Davies has agreed a new one-year contract extension, ensuring he remains part of the squad for another season.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi welcomed the arrival of Senesi, believing the defender will add quality and leadership to a back line that has struggled during Tottenham’s last two Premier League campaigns, both of which ended with 17th-place finishes.
De Zerbi praised Senesi’s ability on the ball, tactical awareness and strong character, adding that the defender possesses the mentality required to succeed in a demanding environment. The Italian coach also highlighted Senesi’s desire to keep improving and said he expects the new signing to make a significant impact.
Senesi will wear the number five shirt at Tottenham.
The club also confirmed that midfielder Yves Bissouma will leave when his contract expires this summer. The Mali international joined Spurs from Brighton in 2022 in a deal reportedly worth £30 million and went on to make 90 Premier League appearances for the club.
