Valencia have dismissed head coach Carlos Corberan and football chief executive Ron Gourlay following a disastrous opening to the La Liga season.
The club are bottom of the table after collecting just one point from their first five matches, with last week’s 5-0 defeat against Barcelona adding further pressure on the sporting leadership.
Corberan arrived at Mestalla in December 2024 after leaving Championship side West Bromwich Albion. The 43-year-old initially helped steady Valencia after taking charge with the team sitting second from bottom, eventually guiding them to 12th place before overseeing a ninth-place finish last season.
However, Valencia’s failure to win any of their opening five league games this campaign has prompted the club to make major changes.
Corberan’s first-team coaching staff will also leave, while Valencia B coach Oscar Sanchez has been placed in temporary charge.
The reshuffle extends beyond the dugout. Gourlay, who joined Valencia in December 2024 after previously holding senior roles at Chelsea and West Brom, has also departed. Members of his football operations team — Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andres Zamora and Malek Shafei — are leaving as part of the wider restructuring.
Valencia said the changes are intended to mark the beginning of a new phase in the management of the club’s sporting department. Details of a revised football structure and the club’s next sporting project are expected to be announced shortly.
The search for Corberan’s replacement will continue a period of frequent managerial turnover at Mestalla. Valencia’s next permanent appointment will become their 18th head coach since 2012.
Sanchez will prepare the team for their next La Liga fixture against Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday as Valencia look for their first victory of the season.
