Banijay Gaming Strengthens French Presence with €300m JOA Group Acquisition

Banijay Gaming has completed the acquisition of French casino operator JOA Group in a deal worth around €300 million, expanding its footprint in France’s land-based gambling market.

The agreement, first announced in November 2024, sees Banijay take control of France’s third-largest casino operator after receiving the necessary regulatory approvals. The transaction was finalised through Banijay’s gaming division, which was created as part of the company’s strategy to expand beyond entertainment production and into the gambling sector.

JOA operates more than 30 casinos across France and has established a strong position in the country’s gaming market. The company offers a mix of slot machines, table games, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues, attracting millions of visitors each year.

Banijay said the acquisition represents a major step in developing its gaming operations and diversifying its business portfolio. The group highlighted JOA’s recognised brand, experienced management team and regional presence as key reasons behind the deal.

The purchase also marks a significant move into regulated land-based gambling for Banijay, which is widely known for its global television production business and formats such as Big Brother and MasterChef. The company has been increasingly exploring opportunities in the gaming and betting industry as part of a broader growth strategy.

JOA’s existing leadership team is expected to continue managing daily operations, while benefiting from Banijay’s resources and wider network.

The acquisition further consolidates France’s casino market, where established operators continue to strengthen their positions amid changing customer habits and increased competition across the wider entertainment sector.
