BetMGM has expanded its online casino offering in Alberta with live blackjack, roulette and baccarat streamed directly from MGM Resorts International properties in Las Vegas.
The new service gives BetMGM Casino Alberta customers access to games hosted by professional dealers at venues including the Bellagio and MGM Grand. The tables are broadcast in real time and can be accessed through desktop computers, tablets and mobile devices.
The launch comes just weeks after Alberta opened its regulated competitive iGaming market on July 13, allowing approved private operators to offer online casino games and sports betting alongside the government-owned Play Alberta platform.
BetMGM was among the brands entering the province as the new framework went live. Alberta iGaming Corporation said 22 registered sites were available when the market launched, while operators are required to register with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis and enter a commercial agreement with AiGC.
BetMGM’s latest addition is powered through MGM Resorts’ live casino collaboration with Playtech. Alongside dedicated live dealer games, customers can access Dual Play tables connected to the Bellagio and MGM Grand casino floors. These games allow online customers and people physically seated at the properties to participate in the same live table sessions.
Among the products available are live versions of blackjack, roulette and baccarat. The format is designed to reproduce elements of a physical casino experience online, with players able to watch dealers handle cards or operate the roulette wheel while the game takes place in real time.
Rob Passerino, BetMGM’s director of gaming, said the company sees live dealer gaming as an increasingly important part of the online casino sector. BetMGM’s position is that combining professional dealers with real-time casino-floor action creates a closer connection between digital gambling and the experience offered at land-based properties.
Alberta’s regulatory structure gives BetMGM an opportunity that remains relatively uncommon in North America. While live dealer products in some jurisdictions are required to operate from studios located within the regulated market, Alberta permits eligible games to be streamed from Las Vegas properties.
The rollout also strengthens the link between BetMGM and MGM Resorts as the operator looks to differentiate its casino product in a newly competitive province. BetMGM officially entered Alberta when the market opened in July, marking its first international expansion since launching in Ontario in 2022.
Alberta introduced its regulated market partly to move players away from offshore gambling websites. Provincial authorities estimated that roughly 70% of online gambling activity had previously taken place through unregulated operators. The new system requires approved companies to follow provincial standards covering player protection, responsible gambling and regulatory compliance.
