Betway Expands Canadian Footprint with Alberta Market Launch

Betway has launched its regulated sportsbook and online casino in Alberta, becoming the latest major gambling brand to enter the province’s newly opened private iGaming market.

The Super Group-owned operator was cleared to begin operating in Alberta alongside Golden Tiger Casino, bringing the number of approved gambling websites in the province to around 30. Betway is offering both sports betting and online casino products to players aged 18 and over.

The launch extends Betway’s regulated presence in Canada beyond Ontario and places the brand alongside major operators already competing in Alberta, including FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars and bet365.

Several other Super Group brands are already active in the province, including Jackpot City, Royal Vegas, Ruby Fortune and Spin. Betway itself had previously served Alberta customers before the province introduced its private licensing system, operating within the wider offshore and grey-market environment.

Alberta officially opened its regulated private iGaming market on July 13, 2026. The Alberta iGaming Corporation oversees commercial operations, while Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis acts as regulator. The provincial government introduced the framework partly to move gambling activity away from unregulated websites, which it estimates previously accounted for roughly 70% of Alberta’s iGaming market.

Operators entering the market must complete AGLC registration and due diligence and sign a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. The framework also includes a centralized self-exclusion system, player spending and time-management tools, rules covering advertising and promotions, and requirements designed to identify and respond to high-risk gambling behaviour.

The government retains 20% of net iGaming revenue under Alberta’s commercial model, while 80% is allocated to operators after designated funding for First Nations initiatives and social responsibility programs.

Alberta’s operator roster is expected to continue expanding. Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Minister Dale Nally has previously indicated that the market could eventually support as many as 70 gambling websites once it reaches greater maturity.
