DraftKings has expanded its online poker offering by launching a shared player pool across Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania after receiving regulatory approval from the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), marking another step forward for the growing US multi-state poker market.
The operator’s multi-state poker network officially went live on July 8, allowing eligible players in the three states to compete against one another in the same tournaments and cash games. By combining player liquidity, DraftKings aims to offer fuller tables, larger tournament fields and bigger prize pools.
In Michigan, DraftKings operates its poker platform through its partnership with the Bay Mills Indian Community. Following a regulatory review, the MGCB confirmed the company had satisfied all requirements to offer multi-state internet poker within the state.
Michigan became a member of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA) in 2022, joining Delaware, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Before entering the compact, online poker players in Michigan were limited to competing only against others located within the state.
The latest rollout strengthens competition in the shared-liquidity poker market. Earlier this year, FanDuel introduced its Playtech-powered PokerStars platform across the same three states, creating another major interstate poker network in the regulated US market.
DraftKings could further expand its interstate poker network into other MSIGA jurisdictions, including Delaware, Nevada and West Virginia, if it secures the required regulatory approvals in those markets.
The poker expansion comes during a period of broader North American growth for DraftKings. This week, the company also launched its online sportsbook and casino products in Alberta as the Canadian province opened its regulated competitive iGaming market, continuing the operator’s expansion across regulated gaming jurisdictions.
